Volunteer

The Welfare Council works with some 20,000 individual, family and corporate volunteers every year. Annually, they dedicate more than 100,000 hours of service to more than 330,000 service users. We “serve with care and sincerity”, working with different enterprises, corporations, organisations, families and individuals to actualise the Christian spirit, “to serve but not to be served” through the expression of love and care to those who are less fortunate, and collectively building a harmonious society. The youngest volunteer who has ever worked with the Council was only six years of age. The oldest? A nonagenarian. Even disadvantaged members of society, including live-alone senior citizens, intellectually disabled persons, single-parent families, unemployed individuals, new arrivals from the mainland and persons on the receiving end of the Council’s outreach services, walk among our volunteers.

The Outstanding Volunteers Award Scheme

Since 1988, the Council has been organising the regular Outstanding Volunteers Award Scheme to commend volunteers who have performed well and to promote the spirit of volunteerism. Families, groups, and corporate volunteers, in addition to individual volunteers, are also recognised for their hard work through other awards, highlighting the effectiveness of volunteer networks and encouraging other members of society to join such networks.
