The H.K.S.K.H. Western District Elderly Community Centre’s 20th Anniversary

Fundraising Events

To celebrate the 15th and 20th anniversaries of the Central & Western District Day Care Centre for the Elderly and the Western District Elderly Community Centre, both service units jointly organised a celebratory ceremony to mark their remarkable anniversaries and contributions to seniors in the Central and Western districts in the morning of 21st October, 2017.

The celebratory ceremony was held at the hall of St. Paul’s College, with a theme of lightening up the Western District. Mr Lam Ding-fung, District Social Welfare Officer (Central Western, Southern and Islands), Mr Yip Wing-shing, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman of the Central & Western District Council, the Revd Edith Sin, associate priest of the H.K.S.K.H. St Stephen’s Church, Ms Kay Lai, Executive Committee Member of the Welfare Council and Dr Jane Lee, Director of the Welfare Council, were invited to be the officiating guests.

During the kick-off ceremony, officiating guests turned the gears they were given as participants raised props in the shape of lightbulbs. Together, they lit another lightbulb prop on stage to symbolise the collaboration between officials, the public and the commercial sector in bringing light to the senior citizens of the Central and Western District.

Guests were blown away by a play put up by a group of senior citizens, students and volunteers. The play featured a Taekwondo demonstration, Cantonese opera, violin, African drum and stick dance performances, which introduced the medical services, sports classes, instrumental music trainings and others services provided by the centres.

Short film documenting messages from different organisations and partners was screened to give thanks to the staff for their contributions. Guests and participants then gathered for a group photo to conclude the ceremony.
