BOC - HKBU Chinese Medicine Community Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation Scheme
The Welfare Council has been using physiotherapy and occupational therapy as the mainstay of rehabilitation treatment. It has also introduced Chinese medicine into its services to prepare for the future integration of Chinese and Western medicine in stroke rehabilitation treatment. With funding support from the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, the Council and the School of Chinese Medicine of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) have jointly launched a 3-year "BOC-HKBU Chinese Rehabilitation Scheme" in the community in 2020 Oct. Through the medical-social partnership model, 4 community Chinese medicine treatment centres were set up in the units of the Council, providing free acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatment to low-income elderly people suffering from a stroke. In addition, the project team organised health education talks on Chinese medicine and an Elderly Health Ambassador Scheme to raise public awareness of stroke prevention and treatment.
